Buyer's Guide: The Best Track Pumps | road.cc

The ride feels a lot better with the tyres at '100 psi' but I'm not sure about the accuracy of the pump's pressure gauge.
I need to get a tyre pressure gauge or buy a new pump with a reliable gauge.

Why all the fuss about tyre pressure after all these years?

My old bike had 26 x 2.15 Schwalbe Big Apple 'ballon tyres' fitted and it was quite easy to judge if there was enough pressure (30-55 psi) in them just by squeezing. On the other hand 'skinny' tyres like the 700 x 28c Marathon Plus tyres I have on now need to be inflated to a minimum of 80 psi. The trouble is, 60 psi feels just as hard as 100 psi. So, to avoid over inflating the tyres and potentially causing a blowout or under inflating and being susceptible to pinch punctures it's best to get the pressure right.
