Harrow

A very pleasant, sunny day so decided to take the bike up to Harrow.

Had a great time, Mum was in very good form. I went out to have a smoke on the terrace and couldn't light-up because of the wind, I left soon afterwards. :-)

Wind, wind go away!

Regent's Park

Did Regent's Park then rode up to see Sam. Had a good visit and left at around 19.00.

Still too windy in London Town. :-)

Finsbury, Clissold & St John's Wood

Wind, wind and more wind..... unbelievable!

A lovely day if not for the wind. We ended up riding down to St John's Wood to see Sam. Paul and Lala were there and it turned out to be a quite interesting day.

I was actually taken down by the wind not long after we left Sam's - the first time I've come off since I was a child - a gust caught me completely by surprise and I went down like a felled tree. Ow!

Lunar Cycles

Took the bike into Lunar Cycles, Kentish Town for a 'full service' and it turns out it wasn't a moment too soon!

When the back wheel was removed the hollow axle snapped in two. It appears that the only thing holding the wheel up was the quick release skewer. Apparently this is not uncommon with this kind of hub.

To cut a long story short, they replaced the rear wheel with one that has a solid, bolt-on axle and also replaced the freewheel/cassette, rear brakes and the chain.

The bike feels great!

Haringey

Had a really good visit with CB.

We watched Chelsea beat Rubin Kazan and had a very productive 'music session'.

George Benson rules! :-)

Sunday 7th April

Victoria Park Loop

Decided to ride down to Stratford to see if the section of the Jubillee Greenway that runs through the Olympic Park had been reopened. It hadn't, but the security guard - who was fast asleep - told me it might reopen in May.

Good ride.

Alexandra Palace Ride | Photos | Video

Chris and I were back on the Parkland Walk this afternoon, we hadn't been back there since last Autumn. We went through Queen's Wood and rode the Northern section of PW to Alexandra Palace. Sam had reccommended the Bar & Kitchen at Ally Pally, so we stopped for a cold pint of ale - which was very good - and rode back to Finsbury Park.

A most enjoyable day.

The Novice Cyclist

I've recently taken up cycling as a healthier option to my long time hobbies of smoking, drinking and general laying about and I must admit it has been quite a revelation. For a middle aged man who has spent his lifetime with the devout belief that he is allergic to all forms of exercise I find myself thoroughly enjoying this indulgent pastime.

:-) You'll have to go to Chris' blog to read the rest of his amusing introduction.. The CoolBlue Journal
