Sunday 28th October

Victoria Park Loop GPX File

Met Sam on the canal at about 11.30 and we rode east along the Regent's Canal. We cut through Victoria park to get onto the Hertford Union Canal, rode up to the River Lee and stopped at the Crate Brewery.

First we tried their house IPA - 5.8% ABV, it was delicious! We then went on to this week's guest Ale, Axe Edge - 6.8% ABV a real winter brew from Buxton Brewery in Derbyshire, scrumptious, I could actually taste honey in it. LOL! The pizza wasn't bad either. *****

Rode back through Finsbury Park and did a circuit of the Emirates stadium. FOREVER ARSENAL!

Waterloo & Vauxhall Ride Sun 21 Oct, 2pm

All are welcome on this free family-friendly Lambeth Cyclists Neighbourhood Ride on Sunday afternoon, 21st October, taking a couple of hours to gently explore the Waterloo and Vauxhall area.

The ride starts at 2pm, with a free bike check just beforehand, outside the Garden Museum (right next door to Lambeth Palace, London residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury), just by Lambeth Bridge, SE1 7LB. MORE...

I met Sam in Regent's Park just before 1 PM, Neils caught up with us on Portland Place. We rode from there to Hyde Park Corner, down Constitution Hill, past the palace and through Victoria to Lambeth Bridge. As we got onto the bridge Pete drove past and Chris was already there when we got to Lambeth Palace.

There was a very good turnout considering that the weather forecast was pretty grim, I counted at least thirty.

Our ride leader Charlie Holland was excellent, he had a really good knowledge of the local history and is clearly a very passionate cyclist.

After a very informative and enjoyable ride, we rode back to Regent's park for refreshments before parting company at around 7 PM.

Everyone on the ride received a bag of freebies courtesy of Barclays Cycle Hire & Lambeth council.

Riders: Chris, Neils, Pete & Louis, Sam and Yours Truly.

Saturday 13th October

Rode down the Regent's canal from King's Cross to Victoria Park, took a short break by the lake before heading up the Hertford Union canal to the Lee River navigation. Went north on the river to Springfield Park, then headed west through Stoke Newington to Clissold Park where I met up with Chris.

I will from now on refer to this route as the Victoria Park Loop.

Fantastic weather, but because of the rain earlier the trails were very muddy so kept to the roads where possible. Will post video anon!

The Novice Cyclist

I've recently taken up cycling as a healthier option to my long time hobbies of smoking, drinking and general laying about and I must admit it has been quite a revelation. For a middle aged man who has spent his lifetime with the devout belief that he is allergic to all forms of exercise I find myself thoroughly enjoying this indulgent pastime.
